Friendship Bracelet Headphones

HI!
I know most of you are expecting the quilt to be up this week but it made me angry so it needed to go in a time out for a couple days. I will finish it up soon since I will be taking it to my friend in February so hopefully next week it isn’t such a bad quilt.

So instead of finishing the quilt I beautified my headphones! The friendship necklaces that have been floating around pinterest lately inspired me. Now for a while now I have used thin ribbon instead of embroidery floss when I make friendship bracelets. I think they look super cute this way and I hadn’t seen anyone else make them that way (7 or so years ago-wow). I would also like to point out a spool of the thin ribbon I use is .50 full price but often goes on sale for 4 for $1 and then you can stock up and it is cheaper than embroidery floss at that point, though embroidery floss often goes on sale as well. I like both ways but for this project I used ribbon- the ribbon is thicker and the knots take up more space so less time (always good, right?!). Though it took less time than if I used embroidery floss it still took about 2-3 hours…. Not sure exact as I split up my time between two different days.

So per a suggestion I am going to start numbering/bulleting my steps in tutorials and recipes so they are easier to follow along.

One: Pick the color or colors you want to use. If you are using one color you will most likely need the entire roll of ribbon, maybe even two. The good news is that if you run out of ribbon it is easy to start over with a new piece. Keep in mind that the more colors you use the thicker it will be as after the initial of each color they all will be knotted around.

I used lime green, hot pink and white to cover my lime green headphones.

Two: Cut a generous amount of each color I would recommend half the spool (5 yards) for each color you use and like I said if you run out just start over with that color. It is pretty easy to do.

Three: Fold each cut of ribbon in half to find the center.

Four: take the center of the first ribbon you would like to work with and grab your headphones and line the center of the ribbon with the headphones and make your knot. If you do not know how to make the knot see my embedded video below. Keep in mind in the video I do a backwards 4 I find it easier that way since I am right handed but it is all a matter of preference.

Five: keep knotting until you finish, if you want to change the colors you can either count the number of knots you do or eyeball the length of the stitches. I did about 20 knots for the green, 4 for the white and 20 for the pink. If I would have been thinking I would have done the white after pink and green, but by the time I came up with that Idea it was too late.

NOTE when you add a color make the knot around the headphones and the previous color.

So keep on knotting and eventually you will have covered headphones. I only did the main portion and not the individual bud wires but I may add that at another time.

Have a Happy Friday, check out our parties page for places that I am linking up!
