Thrift Store Redos

Happy Halloween Y’all!

I hope you all have a fabulous day and stay safe!

Now I have a new obsession… thrift shopping. I just love the refashioning and changing aspect so I get a brand new to me pair of shoes that could cost $20 or more for $5. Yay for being on a budget :/ but at least I make it work!

Now since I completely failed at before pictures of the clothing I changed I needed to make sure I did a project for all of you.

At the thrift store I picked up two pairs of flats… 1 pair was a bright orange and the other pair was a shiny black with a bow.

I was looking for flats to be more useful for everyday/ when I go back to working in an office. So I started by getting rid of the bright orange. Wearing orange doesn’t work for me and doesn’t really go with anything I own.

I took the shoes and pulled out some acrylic paint- black. I painted 3 layers total to get nice even coverage. I let the black dry and then wanted to add a little more.
I took some black glitter and modpodge a thick mix of mostly glitter and painted it over the now black flats. I let them dry and they now have a subtle sparkle.
For the second thrift pair of shoes that were a shiny black I scuffed them up a bit and then painted them with a mix of modpodge and silver glitter… It took about 4 coats and it is best to let it dry between each coat to get the best coverage.
After they dried I put the bow I cut off at the beginning back onto the shoes using a little E6000.
And now I have two new pairs of shoes that are comfy and cute and most of all super affordable!
** The glitter I prefer to use is the Martha Stewart brand. I find it is fine enough that it works the best **

  1. Wow! At first glance, I thought you were painting black flats orange and I was like "Wha??" But you did a great job! I wonder how long those orange flats were sitting there because no one else saw their potential like you did. Well done! So glad you shared.

    1. Oh that would be crazy! I wonder that as well.. being a common size I did not expect to find any flats that would fit me and I found two pairs! Thanks for stopping by :)

  2. great idea. Geez - I visit thrift stores regularly and never thought to paint up somehting I found and liked, such as shoes. Great idea and thanks for sharing.

just became your newest follower come by and say hi when you can.
